Kara PDF Print E-mail
I lie here in the tall grass, crying for help, and with each cry, a ball of pain explodes throughout my body; I cannot move my hind legs and I have no more strength to drag my wretched body. I cry for the pain, the despair that I feel; I don't want to die in this manner, thrown aside like a piece of garbage. I did not ask to be born in this cruel world where I have to fend for myself and no one would be my friend.

When the metal machine came hurtling at me, I had no time to move before its wheels crushed my spine like paper. The pain and shock was like a sledgehammer driven through my head and I desperately try to hold onto my sanity. I think of Mum and Dad and all my siblings who had left me one by one and I seek consolation that soon I will be with them ...

The human in the metal machine steps out and through my haze of pain and hallucination, he looks at me. My eyes look at him pleadingly for my body was paralysed. He would not say a word, he picks me up and ignoring my cries of pain and help, he hurls me into the void of green. More pain explodes in my brain and I struggle with consciousness ...

Mummy, give me your strength to cope, your gentle and peaceful visage gives me comfort as I remember the quiet peaceful times where I nuzzle against your warmth and the world seemed such a wonderful place ...

But now I am all alone, the cold is seeping into my body and the darkness is coming ... I don't want to die alone and wretched ... mummy give me your strength ..

We have seen abuse and cruelty to animals in all forms, and the cruelty of mankind knows no depth. It was the afternoon of Friday 24/01/03 that we received a call from a person making his way to the bus stop opposite the Rivervale Condominium in Seng Kang. Eng Soon called us and said he hears cries of pain and anguish coming from the bushes beyond the beaten track that he was on. Upon searching the tall grass, he finally found poor little Kara, a black and tan petite dog of 6 months. Her body was all broken and she was still attemtping to stand and crying out in pain. It was obviously a hit and run and there was a clear track from the trampled grass where somebody had picked her up from the road where she lay broken, and had then deliberately made his way into the tall undergrowth to dump her there to die ...

How anyone could be so cruel and heartless is beyond our comprehension. Can these people be perceived as human beings at all ?

Kara was rushed to the nearest vet, where she was given pain killers and trauma injections to calm her down and alleviate her pain. It was found that her spine was crushed and nearly severed. She would never have the use of her hind legs again ... The question of euthanasia was raised by the vet, but our overiding concern was her quality of life. Would she be experiencing pain throughout her life, would she still have use of her front legs ? The vet assured us that there would be no pain once her spine had been stabilized with steel plates, and that her front legs are still functioning normally. And so we decided to take the difficult path.

On Friday evening, Kara underwent a major 3 hour surgery to have her spine stabilized and to correct her crushed vertebrae. It was a successful operation but the next 4 days would be a critical period. We were fortunate enough to have Marianne and Peter contact us at an opportune time to help with the 3 hour feeds during this difficult period.

We chose to let Kara experience life. She will need extra care and attention for her incontience all her life, but inconvienience will never be the reason that we put a dog down. We intend to import a wheel chair for her from the States where she can continue to be as mobile and spirited as her fighting spirit.

Help us to help Kara live the life that she is capable of and to live life to the fullest. Let Kara be the shining example of humanity and coping with adversity. Help us to continue helping her by defraying the cost of the operation and to find sponsors or local manufacturers for her wheelchair. Kara will be depending on us and we will not let her down. We are but few, but together all of us can play a part to help Kara. If anyone has witnessed this terrible crime, pls call us at 92590698 or e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , and we will bring this up to the authorities. Such beasts of humanity cannot be let off scott free, lest they continue their barbaric and cowardly acts.
